FAQ
Everything to know before you register your bike — prices, license plate, theft and privacy.
The answers depend on where you live. Prices, payment and services vary from country to country.
Get started
What the service is, and who runs it.
- What is NAF Sykkel?
NAF Sykkel is a digital bike register. Your bike is linked to you as its owner, and you get a set of license plates with a QR code and a unique 8-digit ID that goes on the bike.
The registration helps prevent theft, makes it much easier to get the bike back, and documents your ownership.
- How much is NAF Sykkel?
Registration requires an active subscription, renewed annually.
Sykkelregister199 NOK / yrOne bike, one decal set.Standard499 NOK / yrFour decal sets for four bikes.Premium899 NOK / yrFour decal sets, and NAF Veihjelp for sykkel included.Extra bike marking costs 99 NOK each. NAF members get a 50% discount.
- Who runs NAF Sykkel?
NAF Sykkel continues as before — same name, purpose and ownership. Technical operations and further development are handled by Bikekey ApS on behalf of NAF, which also provides user support.
- Is this insurance?
No. NAF Sykkel is a register, not an insurance company. We don't cover losses and don't report claims to your insurer. The registration does, however, make documentation easier if you need to file a claim.
Subscription & payment
Why a subscription, and how you manage it.
- What's in the subscription?
Full access to the registration platform, license plates for your bikes, digital ownership and user support. The subscription renews annually, so the registration stays active.
If you choose Premium Sykkelregister, NAF Veihjelp for sykkel is included.
- Can I register more bikes than the subscription covers?
Yes. If you have an active subscription, you can buy extra bike marking for 99 NOK each and link more bikes to your account.
- Do NAF members get a discount?
Yes. As an NAF member, you get 50% off and full access to the registration platform, including license plates and digital ownership, at half price.
- How do I pay?
The subscription is paid and managed through Vipps. You control it yourself from there, and you don't commit for more than one year at a time.
License plate
The decal set linking the bike to the register.
- What's a license plate?
A set of decals in a very durable material with a QR code and a unique 8-digit ID. The QR code is a shortcut to the bike in the register — most phones scan it in a few seconds. If you can't scan it, the ID can be entered manually.
- Can a thief remove the decal?
The decal is made of thousands of tiny, individual parts. It withstands wind and weather for the bike's lifetime, but can only be removed in very small pieces at a time. Using tools to speed things up usually damages the paint.
What you can register
The bike, and what's on it.
- What do I need to register a bike?
The bike's frame number and a license plate. The frame number is engraved in the metal or applied as a sticker, and is usually found under the frame near the pedals, by the bottom bracket, on the seat tube or on the rear frame. If it's hard to see, cleaning the area often helps.
Brug altid nummeret som det står på cyklen. Det kan afvige fra nummeret på kvitteringen. - Can I register more than the bike itself?
Yes. Two things can be linked to the registration and become searchable in the register:
- The e-bike battery — often the most attractive to thieves, and the most expensive to replace. You can put one of the decals directly on the battery.
- Accessories of value, or gear that makes the bike easier to recognize.
Theft and recovery
What happens when a bike goes missing.
- What happens if the bike is stolen?
You mark it as stolen directly in the platform, for free. The bike is marked as stolen, so anyone who scans the license plate sees it right away.
The report does not replace a police report or a report to your insurance company.
- Can the lost and found locate me?
Yes. Lost-and-found offices can use NAF Sykkel to contact the owner of a bike turned in to them — without your contact details being disclosed. Contact goes anonymously through the platform.
- Can others see my personal data?
No. Personal data is never exchanged between two parties without explicit consent from both. If a passerby scans your bike, only information about the bike is shown.
Ownership and resale
When a bike changes hands.
- What happens to the registration if I sell the bike?
It follows the bike. Via ownership transfer, the registration is moved to the new owner, and both parties confirm the transfer. The seller documents their rightful ownership, and the buyer knows who they're dealing with.
- Can I check a used bike before I buy it?
Yes. With the frame number or plate ID, you can look up the bike and see if the seller is the registered owner, and if it is reported stolen.
That's what makes it hard to end up buying stolen goods.
Your data and documents
What is stored, who can see it, and what you take with you.
- Can I store receipts and papers for the bike?
Yes. Each bike has its own document archive, where you can add receipts, photos, warranty cards and anything else that documents ownership or value.
It's useful if the physical papers go missing — and it's often exactly what is requested if you need to document the bike's value in a claim.
- Who has access to my documents?
Only you. The documents are linked to your account, not to the bike's public view. If a passerby scans the license plate, they see neither documents nor personal data.
- Do I get my data back if I cancel?
Yes. You can download your material and delete your account anytime in the account settings.
Sletning er permanent og kan ikke fortrydes — vi kan ikke genskabe data bagefter. Download derfor dine dokumenter først.
